The challenge
The homeowner had bought UniFi equipment and installed it on shelves with wireless uplinks. Coverage was uneven and the lowest level was unusable.
Existing setup
Owner-supplied UniFi gateway, switch and three access points, all wirelessly uplinked.
What was installed
- Access points relocated to ceiling mounts, one per level plus outdoors
- Wired uplinks to every access point
- Equipment consolidated into a wall-mount rack with a patch panel
- Four PoE cameras added to the same system
Equipment
- UniFi gateway
- 24-port PoE switch
- 4 ceiling access points
- 4 PoE cameras
- 12U wall-mount rack
Installation approach
Runs were pulled from the garage rack location through the crawlspace and attic. Cameras were added in the same visit while pathways were open.
Result
Even coverage on all three levels, wired backhaul throughout, and one dashboard for network and cameras with local recording.
