The challenge
The converted garage was used as a full-time office and got two bars of Wi-Fi from the house. Copper Ethernet was out of range at 380 feet, and a copper run between buildings was not wanted.
Existing setup
Wi-Fi only, with a consumer extender in a garage window.
What was installed
- Conduit and direct-burial fiber from house to garage
- Fiber terminated into switches at both ends
- Local switch and access point in the garage
- Two wired drops at the desk
Equipment
- Single-mode fiber
- SFP modules
- 8-port PoE switch
- Ceiling access point
Installation approach
Trench along an existing landscape path, conduit placed, fiber pulled and terminated, then the garage network built out.
Result
Full internet speed in the garage, wired desk connections, and coverage that reaches the driveway.
