Is UniFi good for a home?
Yes, especially for larger homes, homes with cameras, and anyone who wants one dashboard for Wi-Fi, switching and recording. It expects wired access points and thoughtful placement — given those, it outperforms consumer mesh clearly.
What you get
One managed system: gateway, switching, access points and optionally Protect cameras, all in a single interface with real visibility into what each device is doing.
Hardware built to be mounted and wired — ceiling access points, PoE switches, rack-mountable gear — which is why properly installed UniFi holds up better than stacked consumer boxes.
Where it is overkill
A small apartment or a compact home with a handful of devices and no interest in cameras is well served by a good mesh system and less setup.
What separates a good install from a mediocre one
Access points on ceilings, not shelves. Wired uplinks wherever a cable can reach. A gateway sized for your internet speed and device count. Channels and power tuned to the neighbours rather than left on defaults.
