How much does Ethernet installation cost in a home?
Most homeowners pay a per-drop price plus a minimum visit charge, and the first drop always costs the most because it includes getting to your equipment location. Adding several drops during the same visit lowers the cost of each one substantially.
ReadCan Ethernet be installed in an existing house?
Yes. Ethernet is routinely added to finished homes using attic, basement, crawlspace or interior wall pathways. Small access holes are sometimes needed and are patched afterward; a full rewire is almost never necessary.
ReadCat6 or Cat6A for a home?
Cat6 is enough for nearly every home. It supports 1 Gb at any household distance and 10 Gb up to about 55 metres, which covers Wi-Fi access points, cameras, streaming, gaming and home offices. Cat6A is worth it only for long runs where you genuinely expect 10 Gb, or in a new build where the added cost is small.

Cat6 installation is priced per drop, and the cable itself is a small part of the total — labor and pathway access drive nearly all of the cost. The first drop of a visit is the most expensive because it includes reaching your equipment location; each additional drop installed on the same visit costs meaningfully less.

Why is my Wi-Fi slow upstairs?
Because the signal has to pass through a floor and several walls before it reaches you, your device connects at a low data rate even though the internet service is fine. The fix is an access point on that floor — ideally with an Ethernet cable back to your router.
ReadMesh Wi-Fi or wired access points?
Mesh is fine for smaller, open homes where the units can see each other clearly. Wired access points are better in larger homes, multi-level homes and homes with plaster, brick or foil-backed insulation, because every wireless hop costs throughput and adds latency.
ReadHow many Wi-Fi access points does my house need?
Plan roughly one access point per 1,200 to 1,800 square feet per floor, with one added for outdoor areas or a detached structure. Two covers most homes under 3,000 square feet; three to five suits larger or multi-level homes.

Is UniFi good for a home?
Yes, especially for larger homes, homes with cameras, and anyone who wants one dashboard for Wi-Fi, switching and recording. It expects wired access points and thoughtful placement — given those, it outperforms consumer mesh clearly.
ReadUniFi or Eero?
Eero is simpler and a good choice for a small home with no wiring. UniFi gives better coverage control, real switching, wired backhaul and integrated cameras, which matters in larger homes — at the cost of more setup and more decisions.

Wired or wireless security cameras?
Wired PoE cameras are more reliable: one cable carries power and video, recording is continuous, there are no batteries, and they do not compete for Wi-Fi. Wireless cameras make sense only where cable genuinely cannot reach.
