Ethernet retrofit, six drops in a finished home

The challenge

The home office needed a reliable wired connection and both wall-mounted TVs were streaming over Wi-Fi with regular buffering.

Existing setup

Single ISP router in the living room, no Ethernet anywhere in the home.

What was installed

  • Two drops behind the office desk
  • One drop behind each wall-mounted TV
  • Two ceiling drops for future access points
  • All runs terminated on a patch panel in the garage

Equipment

  • Cat6 cabling
  • 12-port patch panel
  • 8-port switch
  • Keystone wall plates

Installation approach

Upper-floor drops came down from the attic; the main-floor TV wall was fed from the garage ceiling. Four small access holes were cut and patched.

Result

Six tested drops, no visible cabling, and a labeled panel that made the later access point install a one-hour job.
