What drives the price
Pathway difficulty is the biggest factor. A single-story home with attic access is straightforward. A two-story home where the drop lands on the upper floor, or a slab home with no attic or crawlspace, takes longer and may need a raceway or drywall patching.
Distance from your internet equipment matters, as does whether the cable terminates on a wall plate or on a patch panel in a rack. Adding a patch panel or small switch is usually a modest line item compared with the labor of the runs themselves.
How to spend less
Bundle the work. Four drops in one visit cost far less per drop than one drop on four visits.
Place two jacks anywhere you place one — the second cable rides along the same pathway.
Decide the equipment location before the visit. Moving the router or panel mid-job adds time.
What to expect in a quote
A clear count of drops and their locations, the cable type, how each run is terminated, whether testing is included, and who patches and paints any access holes. If a quote does not say, ask.
