Wired or wireless security cameras?
Wired PoE cameras are more reliable: one cable carries power and video, recording is continuous, there are no batteries, and they do not compete for Wi-Fi. Wireless cameras make sense only where cable genuinely cannot reach.
What battery cameras give up
They sleep to save power, so they wake on motion and often miss the first seconds — which is frequently the part you needed.
They depend on Wi-Fi at the far corners of the property, exactly where coverage is weakest.
They need charging, which becomes a recurring chore across four to six cameras.
Why PoE is the standard for homes
Constant power means continuous recording and instant response. Video goes to a local recorder, so footage survives an internet outage and does not require a subscription.
One cable per camera also means one thing to troubleshoot instead of a battery, a radio and a cloud account.
When wireless is fine
A rented home, a temporary position, or a spot with no possible pathway — a shed across the yard, for example. Treat it as the exception, not the plan.
