How do you get good outdoor Wi-Fi with UniFi?
Mount a weather-rated access point outside, under a soffit or eave, fed by an outdoor-rated PoE cable, and aim its coverage across the area you use. Pushing an indoor access point through an exterior wall covers a patio poorly and wastes the unit's capacity.
Mounting and coverage
A soffit or eave gives weather protection, a clean downward coverage pattern and an easy cable path from the attic. One well-placed unit typically covers a patio, pool deck and a good part of a yard; long or wrapped-around properties need two.
Keep the unit clear of metal gutters and downspouts, and do not bury it behind dense foliage.
Cable, power and durability
Use outdoor-rated cable, seal the penetration, add a drip loop, and use a surge protector on runs leaving the building. Outdoor units are PoE powered, so there is no need for an exterior outlet.
