How much does it cost to run fiber to a garage, ADU or office?
Running fiber to a detached building is priced mostly by the trench or conduit pathway between the buildings. The fiber and the media converters at each end are a modest part of the cost; distance, ground surface and whether conduit already exists decide the rest.
What drives the cost
Trenching through soil is far simpler than cutting concrete or crossing a driveway. Existing conduit — even an empty one left by the electrician — can remove most of the labor.
Fiber is preferred over copper for these runs because it is immune to lightning and ground-potential differences between buildings.
How to save
If the building is under construction or an electrical trench is already open, add a dedicated low-voltage conduit at the same time.
What the quote should cover
Pathway method and depth, conduit size, fiber type and strand count, termination at both ends, and the equipment that converts fiber back to Ethernet and Wi-Fi in the outbuilding.
Best for
Connecting a detached garage, ADU, studio or backyard office.
